Wana
Wana, coming from ‘Gondwana’ origin means ‘a land of forests’ in many Asian languages– reflecting our focus on forests, with our group members coming from across Asia.
Our group works on a wide range of forest projects from tropical peatlands and mangroves, plantation management in the top end of Australia to semi-arid woodlands, medium open and tall open forests of south-eastern Australia. We measure impact of disturbances such as fires and grazing on forest carbon using field-based and remotely sensed techniques. We are developing remote sensing methods of assessing forest recovery, biocrust cover and developing techniques to measure black carbon in soils.
