The Centre for Climate-Smart Forestry (CCSF) is one of three national research centres established through the Australian Government’s $100 million Australian Forest and Wood Innovation (AFWI) initiative.

Together, these centres form a coordinated effort to address key priorities for the forest and wood products sector and contribute to AFWI’s mission to transform and grow the sector by driving collaboration and innovation across industry, academia, and government.
The mission of the Australian Forest and Wood Innovation (AFWI) Centre for Climate-Smart Forestry (CCSF) is to provide national research leadership to support Australia’s forests and wood products industry as it adapts to increasingly unpredictable and extreme climatic conditions and the growing recognition of forests' role in mitigating climate change.
Throughout the life of the Centre, the Centre for Climate-Smart Forestry (CCSF) will deliver a coordinated program of co-designed research to support Australia’s forest and wood products sector to adapt and thrive in a changing climate.
Our work brings together industry, Traditional Owners, government agencies, NGOs and leading universities to address shared priorities and real-world challenges. Research is developed in close consultation with partners to ensure it is practical, regionally relevant and nationally significant.

CCSF’s program is structured around four core research themes supported by two cross-cutting themes, ensuring cultural knowledge, policy insight and socio-economic considerations are embedded across all activities.
Together, these themes provide a flexible framework to build partnerships, attract co-investment, and deliver research that expands the forest estate, strengthens resilience, and positions wood and fibre as central to Australia’s low-carbon future.
