What is your role in the School?

I am a Teaching Specialist. I coordinate two subjects (first-year Natural Environments and third-year Applications in Precision Agriculture). I also coordinate the Plant and Soil Science Major in the Bachelor of Agriculture and the Agricultural Science Major in the Bachelor of Science.

When did you start your role in the School? What were you doing beforehand?

I started my role here in 2013. Before that I was doing my PhD at Monash University.

What career path led you here?

My first job was a high-school Geography teacher, and after that I was involved in educational technology R&D. I then went on to pursue a PhD in Soil Science as I have always wanted to contribute to environmental sustainability, and helping others understand it better. Therefore, my background in education prepared me well for my current role.

Helping students learn new skills and knowledge.

What do you love about your discipline?

Soil Science is a wonderfully interdisciplinary field that is such an essential component of our earth’s systems, and key to sustainability.

The application of technology to enable authentic learning about the environment, as well as various technological innovations, e.g., sensors, in the field of agriculture and food.

What do you love about working in Science as a School?

That everyone has their own fascinating area of research and teaching, and one can never stop discovering new things every day from my learned colleagues!
