The following staff are available to supervise honours and masters research in the Recycle and Reuse of Agricultural Wastes research group.
Dr Clayton Butterly
My research focuses on soil organic matter and nutrient cycling, soil-plant interactions, overcoming soil constraints (e.g., soil acidity), and impacts of climate change. In particular, the recovery of nutrients and organic matter from agricultural wastes and the transformation of these resources into organo-mineral fertilisers and soil amendments facilitate sustainable agriculture.
Project topics:
- Mitigating ammonia emissions and odour during intensive animal production.
- Novel approaches to pasteurisation of wastes (in-vessel/wind-row composting, torrefaction, hyperthermal pre-treatment) for maximising nutrient and organic matter recycling.
- Design and performance of organo-mineral fertilisers.
- Forms and fate of phosphorus derived from lignite-fortified poultry wastes.
- Overcoming soil constraints to crop and pasture productivity.
