Landscape and Forest Dynamics (LaForDy)
LaForDy focuses on understanding how forest ecosystems and forested landscapes develop and respond to climate and natural and anthropogenic disturbances.
We use this knowledge to assess how forest functioning may change at multiple scales to inform forest management and conservation. We work in a wide range of forest ecosystems, from eucalypt woodlands and cool temperate rainforests in Australia to tropical, subtropical, and temperate forests in Asia, North America and Europe. Our research combines an understanding of forest natural history with quantitative analyses, including modelling tools from species-level regeneration models to landscape-level simulations and methods such as dendrochronology and remote sensing.
